Drones in the Cotton & Grain Industry

Drone technology is now an affordable and effective tool being used for many different applications on the farm. As the technology is maturing, drones are becoming core equipment to enable faster, more accurate decision making. Our qualification gives students the ability to use Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS) technology and fly safely to capture the date required for the Cotton and Grain industries.

There are many practical applications for drone technology in agriculture, here are a few examples of how this technology can be integrated into daily farming operations:

  • Create highly accurate maps for planning & area calculations.
  • Spot spraying for weed and pests.
  • Nutrient deficiency identification.
  • Create watershed maps for effective water Management.
  • Aerial crop scouting.
  • Proactively detect disease, determine soil and plant health.
  • Remotely monitor dam and water levels.
  • Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) and Lidar applications

Under the New South Wales AgSkilled program UAVAIR can deliver fully subsidised Flight Foundations and partially subsidised Certificate III in Aviation, Remote Pilot – Visual Line of Sight to those involved in the Cotton and Grain Industries within New South Wales. This subsidised training under AgSkilled is administered under the NSW State Training Service Smart and Skilled program.
